A Day in Japan: Maker’s Mess
February 8 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Instructor: Stuart Hill
Duration: 1 day, Saturday Feb 8
Hours: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Course fee: $95 members/non-members
Materials fee: Courtesy of George Hill & Co.
Registration closes Wed Feb 5 11:59 PM EST
Start the day by trying your hand at Suminagashi (ink marbling). Spend the remainder of the day making various Fukurotoji (stab) binding books, utilizing the various sewing patterns.
There will be a wide selection of papers and threads available, so each book will be personal…maybe even incorporating some of the morning’s marbled papers.
A great workshop for someone who has never tried bookbinding or just as a tune up on skills already learned.
This course is part of the Maker’s Mess 2020 series which focuses on making materials and exploring techniques for customizing the look of your books.
Stuart Hill has studied bookbinding with CBBAG under the guidance of Betsy Palmer Eldridge, Don Taylor, Dan Mezza, and Rose Newlove. With a background in engineering and architecture, his keen interest is in the discovery of book structures. Please visit Stuart’s website: www.georgehillco.com
